What's up, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at a NOCO Genius Charger. There's a lot of 'em on our website, but this one plugs into the wall. So it's gonna be a very, very small unit just to maintain or charge some of the machines that you may have. It's going to be great for charging some of those smaller batteries, like our 4-wheeler here. But also for some of our bigger ones that we just kinda wanna maintain, this is gonna be great for it.
So, let's go ahead and plug this in. The cable is about 107 inches long. So once we plug it in, it's going to light up, and we're good to go. There are a lot of different accessories that we can do. With our little connector here, this is where all of our accessories will kinda snap into.
It's a very, very good tight connection, just like that. So, these little clamps come with the kit, but you can grab some ring terminals that just kinda stay on the battery, or just a lot of other different accessories. So, definitely go and check those out. These NOCO chargers are awesome, they enable you to do pretty much everything. But one thing that I'm going to use right now is an extension, just because this 107 inches isn't gonna get us to where we wanna be.
And this extension piece is about 10-foot long. What we want to do is take the appropriate side, I'm just going to use this just so we can get it to the 4-wheeler. So once that's on there, I'll meet you over by the battery on our 4-wheeler. Which it's kind of tucked away, which is another reason why I kinda like these smaller chargers. They come with some really nice, small little clamps.
A lot of these batteries, they're just kind of a pain to get those larger clamps on there, but these are super, super skinny. I just like how narrow they are right here. And they do have a decent spring to 'em, so they're gonna be nice and tight. So let's go ahead and charge this guy up. Typically on this one, on the negative side, I just kinda slide it in like this. It clamps on there, and it's not gonna go anywhere. And then this one, I usually go from up top, just like this. This is where that ring terminal attachment would be nice, just because I can keep it on here. And then whenever I'm ready to charge I can just grab this, and then connect it. So that's something I would definitely recommend, especially if you're gonna be charging, and connecting and disconnecting a machine quite often, like this thing, it'd be really nice. We do have a fuse in-line as well, so the Genius Charger's gonna prevent against anything kind of back feeding. But if something we're to happen for whatever reason, we do have a fuse in there. So that's going to protect everything, protect all our battery and protect our charger. So now that that's hooked up, let's go and take a look at the charger, and go over some features. So right when I connected it, I looked up and it was actually already charging. It detected that we had a 12-volt battery, and it's not an AGM or a lithium. But if you did want to change it, all you gotta do is press this down, like that. Like that for the lithium, or we can hold it down if we have a 6-volt. So this is gonna be pretty much the bare bones when it comes to chargers. It's just very, very small. You're going to have a couple of different indicators when it comes to whenever we're hooking this stuff up. So this one right here, that just is gonna let us know that it's not a 6-volt battery, so that means that there's too much voltage on the battery end for it to charge. So it's not gonna do the 6-volt, so you don't have to worry about it trying to. And then of course, we just have the power right there. And then I'm just going to let it charge. You can't really see it too well, but over here we're going to have two other indicators. And basically this one right here at the very, very bottom right, that one's just gonna let you know if you have the positive and negative leads swapped around. It's not gonna try to pump juice because it just has a little safety feature right there. And the LED indicator on top on the right, that's one that we really don't want to light up just because it's gonna say we have a bad battery. This one isn't gonna have a recovery mode. So, if you are looking to kind of maybe bring some of your old batteries back to life, some of the larger NOCO Genius Chargers are going to have that recovery mode, so that might let you use your battery a little bit longer. And it's basically just gonna kinda fix it up, recover it so you |
