| Video Discription | The Pre-Apprentice Program, sponsored by Walsh Construction, was an eight-week exposure program where candidates gained construction experience by participating on the renovation of the old Cook County Hospital building. Pre-Apprentices shadowed management staff and superintendents. They select a trade of their choosing and shadowed the foreman for the last four weeks of the program. Industry-based training was also made available, including but not limited to OSHA 10 Hour, Flagging Certification, Fall Protection, Confined Space and First Aid. At the end of the program, 80 percent of the candidates were sponsored into a local union. |
