I started my journey from Girnar Taleti which is the base of the mountain and also the place from where you can take Udan Khatola. Girnar also known as Girinagar ('city-on-the-hill') or Revatak Parvata, is a group of mountains in the Junagadh District of Gujarat. Is considered older than the Himalayas, Girnar, the mountain and its range are considered sacred. Itvis the highest peak of Gujarat. In ancient time, because of volcanic eruption, it made total 5 peaks in mount girnar named, 1. Ambaji 2. Gorakhnath 3. Dattatreya 4. Ogahd Ansuya 5. Kalika. Gorakhnath, the highest peak of Girnal Hills is the one on which the footprints of Gorakhnathji, the renowned saint are. Dattatreya peak has a small temple on the footprints of Guru Dattatreya. There are total 10,000 steps to reach at top of the mountain (Guru Dattatreya Temple). If you coming to Ambaji temple through Ropeway than remaining 5000 steps will take 1.5 hours to time to reach Guru Dattatreya Temple. One can reach Ambaji temple through Ropeway with ₹700 and returns back to Girnar Taleti. It is an important pilgrimage site for both Jains and Hindus, who gather here during the Girnar Parikrama festival. Girnar is one of the five major 'tirthas' attributed to the 'panch kalyanakas' of various 'Jain tirthankaras'. Girnar is also significant among Shiva devotees for the so-called "mystic space-time" of the mountain range, with the presence and turnover of different sects of Sadhu Babas, Nath sect and others. Different Jain Tirthankaras and monks have in the past visited and practiced severe penance at the peaks of Girnar. For Jains this place is considered holy as Nirvana Kshetra and Nirvan bhumi of 22nd Tirthankara Neminath & For Hindus this place is considered holy as Dattatreya stayed there.
Once I am done with the darshan of all temples I had time to explore the Junagadh city a bit wherein I saw the Sardar Patel Darwaja. It is a structure opposite Junagadh Railway Station and looks like a city gate with a clock tower attached. The darwaja has many features that point to is resemblance to a city gate such as a single arched entrance, doors studded with nails, 2 guard towers flanking the entrance and high walls than extend out from the entrance. Next, I headed to Junagadh Museum. Built in a beautiful old palace of Junagarh, the Darbar Hall Museum is amongst the finest museums in Gujarat as it preserves the treasures of the Junagarh rulers. Darbar Hall was the court for the erstwhile Nawabs of Junagadh and was later converted into a museum to preserve the possessions of Junagarh Maharajas. The splendid repository includes the 19th-century possession of the Nawabs that were found here years ago. Next visited the Mahabat Maqbara Palace from outside as some construction work was going on. This stunning mausoleum of Nawab Mahabat Khan II of Junagadh (1851–82) seems to bubble up into the sky in the old city. One of Gujarat’s most glorious examples of Euro-Indo-Islamic architecture, with French windows and Gothic columns, its lavish appeal is topped off by its silver inner doors. The minarets on the sides have spiral steps going up to the top of the tower. Lastly visited the Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden also known as Sakkarbaug Zoo or Junagadh Zoo is a 200-hectare zoo that opened in 1863. The zoo provides purebred Asiatic lions for the Indian and the international endangered species captive breeding program for the critically endangered species.
