| Video Discription | How to Calculate Torque For Electric Motors for beginners. This example in the video is calculating torque Foot-Lbs. The following Torque Formula from the video, Torque = Hp (Horsepower) x 5252 (Constant For Foot-Lbs) ÷ RPM. This formula is widely used when you are trying to identify how much torque your electric motor is producing. You usually can find both the RPM and Horsepower on the electric motors name plate. If its a NEMA motor and the nameplate is missing you can contact a motor distributor like, Torpey Denver, and they should be able to give you a close estimate on what the Hp and RPM of the motor are just by looking at the shaft size. Example: If you had a AC motor that was 5Hp and ran 1200 RPM, how much torque would the motor have? 5 (Hp) x 5252 (Constant For Foot Lbs) ÷ 1200 (RPM) = 21.88 Ft-Lbs of Torque Example: Your Next motor is a very large AC motor and the motor has a nameplate with the Hp at 100, and the RPM at 1750.
