| Video Discription | Beryl has remained a Category 5 storm in the Caribbean Sea early Tuesday although its winds decreased slightly midday. This is the earliest Cat. 5 on record beating Hurricane Emily in 2005 (July 16th). Wind shear will begin to gradually weaken the storm later today and this week as it approaches the western Caribbean and Mexico. Some dry air intrusion and land interaction with high terrain of Jamaica on Wednesday may also weaken the hurricane. By the weekend, it should have crossed over Yucatan and entered the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. High pressure over the southeast US should keep Beryl on a westward track away from the northern Gulf Coast. This steering pattern would send it into Mexico or southern Texas likely as a less strong hurricane or tropical storm next weekend. We are not expecting direct impacts from Beryl for our part of the Gulf Coast at this time. Still, we'll continue to track it closely all week. Another area is following behind Beryl, but this one now has a lower chance of developing. The next names on the list are Debby and then Ernesto. |
