| Video Discription | In 2013, Tory Prime Minister David Cameron said the British people must “have their say” on Europe and pledged an in/out referendum if the Conservatives won the 2015 election. I think just about everyone agrees that the whole reason the pro EU Cameron and his cabinet added the Brexit referendum to their 2015 manifesto was purely to neutralise the threat from the hard right by - 1. quelling a revolt among his own eurosceptic backbenchers - the ERG and other weird sub-groups of far right libertarian Tory MPs, and 2. countering the growth of Farage’s right-wing populist Ukip. 11 years later, not only has darling of the far right 30p Lee Anderson defected to Farage’s Reform UK Limited, but also, Farage’s latest populist vehicle has now reached double figures in recent polls and continue to close the gap on the Tories. So on both counts, from the perspective of the very architects of Brexit themselves, Brexit has been pointless. And for the rest of us, it’s been far worse than pointless.
