| Video Discription | When there is no mood to cook, plain rice and pickles are awesome combination. If it has fish then double whammy. This recipe is so simple, that you will never ever buy fish pickles from stores. With balanced flavours of spices and fish, this Kerala style tuna fish pickle will be your go to side dish when you need a break from kitchen. Trust me when I say you don’t need any side dish! My dear friends try this recipe and let me know your thoughts in the comments. To Fry The Tuna Fish: 1 kilo சூரை மீன் or tuna fish 2 teaspoon red chili powder or மிளகாய் தூள் 1 teaspoon black pepper powder or கருப்பு மிளகு தூள் ½ teaspoon turmeric powder or மஞ்சள் தூள் 1+1/2 Salt or உப்பு 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste or இஞ்சி பூண்டு விழுது 1. Mix these to the tuna fish and marinate for 2 hours. 2. Fry the Fish cubes until water is removed. தண்ணீர் அகற்றப்படும் வரை மீன் க்யூப்ஸை வறுக்கவும். 3. This may take 20 to 30 minutes. இதற்கு 20 முதல் 30 நிமிடங்கள் ஆகலாம். To prepare the masala: ½ cup oil or எண்ணெய் 1 Tbsp mustard seeds or கடுகு 150 gms garlic or பூண்டு 150 gms ginger or இஞ்சி 5 /6 sprigs of Curry leaves or கறிவேப்பிலை Mix the above and cook until light brown Add , 1 /2 Tbsp asafoetida or பெருங்காயம் ½ Tbsp fenugreek powder or வெந்தயம் தூள் 4 tbsp chili powder or மிளகாய் தூள் ½ tbsp salt or உப்பு Mix the above and cook until raw smell is gone. To this add the fried fish and let all the pieces get coated Then, we add 1 Cup Vinegar and allow it to boil. ( ½ cup extra can be added if you want a more sour taste ) Check for Salt and adjust if required. Switch off the flame once the pickling liquid has boiled and rest it for 24 hours. Post 24 hours, check the pickle and mix it once more . Serve it in bottles and let it remain undisturbed for 2 days before consumption. Tips : 1. When buying tuna, buy the blue fin tuna which is lighter in color than the yellow fin tuna. 2. While cutting the cubes cut it in opposite direction to the lines on the fish 3. Fry the tuna cubes minimum 20 minutes to ensure water is removed 4. If you want more liquid in pickle , add in ½ cup boiling water along with vinegar while boiling . 5. Please note, that adding water can reduce the shelf life of the pickle. 6. Refrigerated pickle can stay unspoiled upto 6 months if water is not added in the last stage.
