The Jammu and Kashmir police has invoked the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act or UAPA to register a case against people using social media via proxy servers in order to get past Internet firewalls. Earlier last month, the J&K administration restored the internet services after 6 months of lockdown, but only allowed certain “whitelisted” sites to be accessed using only 2G data, and continued to ban use of social media.
