| Video Discription | In the UPSC Civils services examination, Nishant Jain, a Hindi medium students secured the 13th rank which is an inspiration for students preparing for the IAS exam with Hindi medium. Nishant has proved that if you have the will and determination to become an IAS officer then language (English medium) is not a compulsory (anivarya) trick to secure a good rank. Dr. Vikas says that Nishant Jain was very lively student (who used to do shero-shayari too); he failed the Prelims at first attempt. Drishti IAS CEO Shri Shivesh Mishra, Dr. Vikas recalls, used to say that because Nishant Jain is good at writing, nobody would stop him from clearing the exam once he is through the prelims. He cleared IAS (Prelims) exam in the next attempt. He got 313 in Hindi literature and got 160 marks in essay paper (nibandh). Nishant’s book -Mujhe banna hai UPSC topper (I want to become the UPSC topper) is also released in the video. UPSC 2014 Rank 13 also worked for Drishti Current Affairs Today, the Hindi magazine for UPSC and state services aspirants. HINDI MEDIUM AT UPSC EXAM-IAS TOPPER’S SEMINAR Dr. Divyakirit recalls in the video that it is unfortunate that Hindi medium students have almost got the top rank (1 or 2) or came close to getting it but missed it. Nishant Jain too could have got the first few ranks, he says if he had got slightly better marks at the interview by the UPSC board evaluating the candidates. Another Hindi medium student around 15 years ago was close to first/top rank (Krishna Kant Pathak, same cadre IAS Rajasthan, he got rank 15; his nibandh score was 65 out of 200 while his previous essay score was 165 out of 200). Similarly Kiran Kaushal (Drishti student) interview score was 215 and she too could have scored the top rank at the Civil services exam if she had received better interview marks at the hands of UPSC board members. UPSC (IAS) TOPPER SAYS IN INTERVIEW… Nishant clearly says that the talk will be more about interaction (and students are free to ask questions to extract information from him) and says that the book he has written has 18 chapters (including success stories of Hindi medium students). Why are we preparing for the Civil services exam?, he asks openly. Gareeb logo ke liye kaam karunga, says one person. Another person (a girl) wants to be an example for girls education. Yet another says he wants to work for those on the margins. So most people want to be an IAS officer as they want to help people (SCs, STs, downtrodden and so on). Nishant says that IAS is just one of the ways to do that; IAS is not the sole way to do it.
