Broadening vaccination gateways through pharmacies Vaccines are one the most effective public health interventions, second only to clean water. They save millions of lives every year around the world and provide excellent social value and return on investment for health systems. The World has seen with COVID-19 what a world without vaccines can look like, and it is a social, ethical and health imperative to improve vaccination coverages across all ages. Community pharmacists are available and committed to having an active role in vaccination strategies. This high-level roundtable will discuss how countries can expand vaccination coverage rates – particularly for adults – with a broad range of global health stakeholders. After this roundtable the participants should understand: The prioritisation of prevention strategies and primary health care, including the role of community pharmacies The global benefits of vaccination, including the wider socio-economic improvements resulting from successful vaccination programmes. The key drivers and barriers for pharmacy’s involvement in vaccination services COVID-19 vaccination: preparing the ground for mass vaccination and ensuring equity of access.
