The port, located in Palghar district, is designed as an all-weather, greenfield deep-draft facility. It will include nine container terminals, four multipurpose berths, liquid cargo berths, and specialized facilities like a Ro-Ro berth and a Coast Guard berth. The development involves reclaiming 1,448 hectares of sea area and constructing 10.14 km of offshore breakwater, with a projected capacity to handle 298 million metric tonnes per year, including 23.2 million TEUs of container traffic. The project, valued at Rs. 76,220 crore, will also establish road connectivity to national highways and a rail link to the Dedicated Rail Freight Corridor, enhancing logistical efficiency. It aims to facilitate EXIM trade flows through the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) and the International North South Transportation Corridor (INSTC). The port's world-class facilities are set to leverage public-private partnerships (PPP) and modern technologies to accommodate mainline megavessels from international shipping routes.
