With the help of the XC90, it successfully pulled the luxury brand out of irrelevance and paved the way for other successful models in its lineup, such as the XC60 and XC40. Having only received low-profile refreshes over the last seven years, it is still an elegant and sophisticated option in the luxury sedan segment. For 2022, the “T#” branded engines are gone, replaced by the B6 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder mild hybrid that includes an additional 48 volt lithium-ion battery and an electric supercharger. Horsepower is down (295), but torque (310) and fuel economy (26 combined) both see a boost. The S90 Recharge is still available if you are looking for a plug-in hybrid, but it still retains the belt-drive supercharger. Inside, the S90 also receives the Android Automotive user interface first seen in the XC40 Recharge.
