From a repetition principal perspective we are then vulnerable to choose partners who will do unto us what our parents did to us... Until we heal and stop the cycle. Injury to the core self can result from childhood wounds such as physical sexual emotional abuse, smothering/spoiling, and abandonment. To be abandoned and discarded triggers negative core beliefs such as not being important and not being lovable, as examples. As a defense mechanism against abandonment, some will isolate, and others may abandon before they are abandoned. These defense mechanisms create chaos and breakdowns and ultimately create more isolation and disconnection.
