| Video Discription | The intriguing work of Beijing-based artist Wang Jiajia was recently featured in "A/S/L," the second solo exhibition by DE SARTHE gallery in Hong Kong. The artwork on view is completely different from what viewers have seen in previous exhibitions and, as suggested by the show's title (Age/Sex/Location), focuses on the newly acquired ability we now have as a result of the advent of the internet age that enables us to perceive each other without the need for our physical presence. As many will recall, in the early 2000s, the phrase "A/S/L?" entered the lexicons of online message boards and chat rooms, enabling users to get to know one another in the lack of a profile picture. Although it has fallen out of favour, its use marked a turning point in human connectivity when it allowed us to learn vital information about one another's identities without ever having to meet.
