| Video Discription | Communities in Los Angeles and around California face a variety of water challenges ranging from securing access to clean and affordable water, to contending with the reality of water supplies threatened by a changing climate. An exhibit co-curated by Edith & Jolly de Guzman explores these issues and our region’s ever-changing water story. What’s On Tap: LA’s Water Story…Source to Spigot is on view at Avenue 50 Studio in LA's Highland Park neighborhood from July 13 to August 10, 2024. Sixteen artists used a wood panel with a spigot installed into it as their "canvas" and responded to one of five prompts about water issues that affect the LA region, including imported water and access to clean water. The opening reception on Saturday, July 13th included a panel discussion moderated by UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation research and co-executive director Gregory Pierce. Panelists included: Candice Dickens-Russell, President and CEO, Friends of the Los Angeles River Dr. Silvia R. González, Director of Research, UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute Victor Griego, Founder, Water Education for Latino Leaders Dr. Alesia Montgomery, Assistant Professor, UCLA Dept. of African American Studies and Institute of Environment and Sustainability Dr. Monica Sanchez, Councilmember, City of Pico Rivera This programming was supported by the California Institute for Water Resources, Accelerate Resilience Los Angeles, and Avenue 50 Studio, and is presented in partnership with the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation, UCLA Water Resources Group, Los Angeles Center for Urban Natural Resources, US Forest Service Region 5, and Arroyo Arts Collective. |
