So although many do consider it to be the worst season, it's pretty hard to blame Psyonix for it. They were just a small indie company at the time and were massively overwhelmed by the amount of popularity their game had received during their first year. With little to no experience in balancing the population of a ranked system, there definitely needed to be some experimenting done. And at this point, I think it's safe to say that the mistakes Psyonix had made with Rocket League's rank system back then have now been the benefit of the much more balanced rank system we have today.
