| Video Discription | After being elected to be the General-Secretary of China in 2012 and then president in 2013, Xi Jinping visited Kazakhstan to make a huge announcement. China was set to begin work on central Asian economic corridor known as the Silk Road Belt. Then he visited Indonesia to announce the beginning of a Maritime Silk Road. Ultimately these two would connect to become the Belt and Road Initative; the larges economic network project in history. It's finish date, 2049, exactly 100 years after the Communist Party of China took power. In this series, Mr. Mitchell takes you through the history of Modern China from the 1940s up until the present day beginning with the Chinese Civil War and today covering the Tienanmen Square massacre. Regardless of how "into" history you'd consider yourself, this is amongst the most important educational topics in the world. As we look towards the 2020s, it seems more and more like the USA is going to be overtaken by China as the world's dominant superpower. With this being the case, we ought to understand who they are, what made them the way they are, and whether they really are the "boogeyman" of world politics. It's well worth a watch. |
