| Video Discription | Headaches are very common element; they are most often described as pain in hair or upper neck and can be felt in the specific areas of the head or face, or at the base of skull. It is estimated 45 million people in US suffer from recurring headaches annually. A physician can diagnose specific primary headaches, such as migraines by having the patient describe their symptoms to the Physician. There are ranges of rating system for headache types, it is also possible to diagnose headache by brain imaging techniques such as MRI. There are several treatments options aside from NSAID’S that are used for treating chronic headaches. Nerve blocks, if successful are effective medium term treatments for headaches. Occipital trigeminal and spinal and ganglion blocks are often indicated for cluster and chronic migraines headache. Headaches are a widespread problem with chronic headaches affecting as much as 15% of the U.S. population. Pain occurring above the shoulders, such as in the face, head, base of the skull, or upper neck is characteristic of headaches. The pain associated with headaches may be highly localized as sharp acute pain, or it may be a more widespread, broad, or dull pain. There are also many associated symptoms that may present alongside headaches, whether causative or concurrent. Such symptoms include light-sensitivity and nausea. Some headaches begin with a sudden onset of discomfort and severe sharp pain, and may cause long lasting pain through recurrence in the form of chronic headaches. While there is often some predictability to recurring headaches, particularly if they are episodic and occur at regular intervals, it can be difficult to predict the onset of other types of headaches. Despite the common sensation that headaches are a physical pain originating from within the brain, there are no pain receptors located within the brain. The lack of pain receptors within the brain itself means that the pain of a headache occurs in the surrounding tissues and is then perceived as being in the brain. Many of the surrounding tissues and structures can be sources of headaches. These include the eyes, ears, sinus cavities, blood vessels, muscles, subcutaneous tissues, the skull, or any of the nerves associated with these tissues and organs.
