| Video Discription | ► The history of the Ippodo Tea Shop, goes back to 1717, where it was founded in Kyoto, selling only the best of the best, traditional Japanese green (and brown) teas. The shop is as much a tea-room, as it's a teashop, as half the space is dedicated to their "drink-in" customers. (unfortunately I wasn't allowed to film this area, and I cant blame them - if you're paying 3000-4000 yen for a small cup of tea, you want to enjoy it, not have a camera up your nose) As mentioned, their first shop opened in Kyoto, since then, they also opened a very stylish branch here in Marunouchi, Tokyo (featured) and one in Osaka as well. (and last year they opened their first overseas shop in New York City) Their prices range from 1200 yen to 15000 yen for 100 gram, at which point, I guess you need to be an expert to truly appreciate a tea at this level. (and that I'm writing while drinking a cup of Earl Grey tea w. milk & honey) Easy access to "Ippodo Tea", a 5 minute walk from Yurakucho or Ginza Metro Stations. - Enjoy. |
