| Video Discription | A mixture of alcohol vapour and air in a large polycarbonate bottle is ignited producing a dramatic whoosh effect. This common school demonstration is used to show the large amount of chemical energy released in the combustion of alcohols. The alcohol used here was propanol, technically known as 1-Propanol. This colourless liquid is also known as propan-1-ol, 1-propyl alcohol, n-propyl alcohol, and n-propanol. The bottle itself is made of polycarbonate and this is vital to the success (ie no injuries or damage) of the demo. Don't try this at home folks! |
