The heavy carrier seated atop her back and the threatening bull-hook forced her to walk over long distances under the scorching sun with insufficient food and water. The consequences of such torture may sustain throughout her life as she is now severely disabled. Her ankylosed limbs and altered gait narrate the pain she has suffered at the hands of humans. But this new year, we hope to start a new chapter in Lakshmi’s life by offering her the love and care that she deserves.
