Hi, Matt with etrailer. If you're looking for a way to carry your cargo from point A to point B in a more secure fashion, and you don't want the elements getting to it, then Yakima NX 16 roof box can be a great option on your 2022 Subaru Forester. What's really nice about this is if you're running out of space in the back of the Subaru, and maybe you're going on a vacation so you got a little bit of extra luggage with you, putting it somewhere else is going to go a lot for you. Especially if your hitch is already being taken up by something or you don't already own a hitch, then the roof is gonna be your next best option. So let's check it out. First, let me show you how this is gonna work.
So you're gonna have an included key for this, so you can unlock it. So that's one of the reasons why it's more secure. And what's nice about this design is you can actually open this up from either side. So just in case one day you don't have access to your passenger side, you can open up from your driver's side. When I open this too, you notice this stays open because we have hinge locks keeping this in place, that's definitely gonna make this a lot easier because that's pretty high up.
So I'm probably gonna have to step inside of my vehicle, and it's gonna really make my life a lot easier if I don't have to hold this up the entire time. And we're gonna have plenty of space inside of here, and we're gonna have these sections that divot down. And that's where if you have some gear in here and let's say you had something that was pretty sandy, or had a lot of water on it, and all of that has melted, and kind of is sitting at the bottom right here, well this is designed for if you have any new gear in here, it's not gonna rest in that. So it's gonna stay a lot cleaner. And we're gonna have this included tool that stores inside of your box.
And the way this works is you just tighten down the top of these clamps. (knob clicking) If you hear that click, that's just really a built in torque device, and it's letting you know this is all the way tighten. What's also really neat about these clamps is this is just the top part of it where you tighten it down, but this also has the ability to slide down this tray a little bit to accommodate different crossbar spreads. And continuing on with that clamp, this is gonna reach underneath and grasp onto your crossbars. It's gonna have this rubber bottom to it, so won't scratch anything up.
And what is nice is this is gonna work with a variety of different crossbar styles from the arrow ones we have today to your round and square bars. Now if you try to use this with some HD bars, they might work, but it's definitely just gonna depend how big and bulky they are. And like I said earlier, this is pretty high up. So once you're done using it, you're gonna have to reach up here, and try to grab that lift. And right now this is a bit of a reach for me. And if you are a shorter person, that might not be possible without having to step inside your vehicle. There's an easier way. We can just grab the strap that hangs down, so you can pull this into place. Once that's pulled into place, we can close this up. Now we're gonna have this knob and if I try to take off my key, I won't be able to. That's because this is letting us know it's not closed all the way. If I pull down on this a bit, you're gonna see that lever move up and block that red bar. And from this position I can unlock it and know that it's gonna be secured down. As for the fitment, we're getting a really good fit today. Now it is taking up most of the width of our crossbars, so you're not gonna be likely to put anything else up here with it, but I don't really recommend that anyways, 'cause the box itself is kind of heavy and it's gonna have a weight capacity of up to 165 pounds, which is most likely gonna be similar to your roof. That's something I recommend checking in your owner's manual. But if you try to put anything else up here and have this loaded, you're probably going to be you surpassing what your roof's weight capacity is is anyways. But what's also nice is we're not getting any overhang on our front windshield, so you don't have to worry about that blocking any of your view. And we are on top of our sunroof today, but our clamps sit pretty recessed or pretty high. So I'm not too |
