These villages are governmentally recognised but their settlements are still illegal’ informed an official of the forest department. To evaluate the ground reality, minister of environment, forest and climate change- Mama Natung along with officials visited 52 miles village. ‘The villagers must have been unaware of the law, I have requested them to resettle elsewhere. we will discuss the matter with elected leaders, representatives and officials to come up with an amicable solution’. According to officials ‘The sum of 15 lakhs was sanctioned for their resettlement’. Under India's Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, any kind of human settlement within a national park is prohibited. |
