On air every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. (KST) Today's INNERview - Yoo Jae-myung Yoo Jae-myung, dominating the American animation industry! The animation series 'The Legend of Korra' was the most watched kids program and a cable program with the fourth highest viewer ratings in America. Behind this sensational animation series was a group of Korean animators, and the man who led and directed them was none other than Yoo Jae-myung, who was involved in the entire production process. We have invited this man, who is demonstrating the power of Korean animation technology and the skills of Korean animators worldwide, on the INNERview. Changing the American animation industry In the beginning of the new millenium, Nickelodeon was pushed out of its No. 1 spot in the animation industry by Disney, and they needed to create a series that could help them re-gain what they have lost. They decided to assign the entire production processes, including the planning part, to the Korean animation director Yoo Jae-myung, which has never been done before. He dedicated all his efforts to the production and it was met with a huge success with cumulative viewership of 29 million and average viership of 300,000 people for each episode. A high school graduate, leading the global animation industry When Yoo jae-myung was in his second year in high school, his family had to put their home up for immediate sale due to their worsening financial situation. The CEO of an animation company came to see his house one day and gave Yoo Jae-myung his business card after seeing his drawings on his bedroom wall. This is how Yoo Jae-myung got his start as an animator, and he worked day and night to earn as much money as he possibly could. Even though he was earning substantially more than people his age, he couldn't help but feel a sense of emptiness inside. So, he decided to start all over again in order to raise his value as an animator... 10 years later, he became one of the top animators in the global animation industry. I don't like the term, 'subcontracting project' Animations have been produced based on the instructions given by the original creators, similar to "Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM)." However, this is not how animation director Yoo Jae-myung approaches his projects. He undertakes each project with a sense of ownership and based on the trust he has built with his partners.
