| Video Discription | یہ گیت ساحر کی زندگی کے اُس دوَر کی یاد میں لکھا گیا ہے جب وُہ، ایک اُبھرتے ہوئے نوجوان مسلمان اُردو شاعر تھے اور ایک اُبھرتی ہوئی سِکھ پنجابی شاعرہ کے سحر میں گرفتار ہو چکا تھے۔ اُن کی ملاقات پنجاب کے ایک چھوٹے سے قصبے پریت لڑی میں پنجابی کی ایک ادبی محفل میں ہوئی تھی اور اُس ادبی محفل کے بعد اُنہیں چاندنی رات میں ساتھ ساتھ چلنے کا موقعہ بھی مِلا تھا۔ وُہ سکھ شاعرہ، امرتا پریتم، ایک مشہور سکھ مذہبی سکالر کی اکلوتی بیٹی تھیں جن کی شادی اُن کی مرضی کے بغیر اُن کے والد نے کر دی تھی اور جن کے اب دو بچے بھی تھے اور وُہ اپنے شوہر سے علیحدگی اختیار کر کے لاہور میں رہ رہی تھیں۔ لاہور میں، امرتا کے گھر ساحر اور امرتا کی ملاقاتیں ہونے لگیں۔ ساحر اکثر امرتا کے گھر سے کچھ دوُر نُکٗڑ پر کھڑے رہتے اور امرتا کے گھر کو دیکھتے رہتے۔ جب ساحر امرتا سے مِلتے تو دونوں زیادہ تر چُپ ہی رہتے۔ ساحر سگریٹ پیتے رہتے۔ جب وُہ اُٹھ کر چلے جاتے تو امرتا وُہ سگریٹ کے ٹکڑے سنبھال لیتی تھیں اور اُنہیں تنہائی میں سُلگا کر پینے کی کوشش بھی کرتی تھیں۔ اِن سگریٹ کے ٹکڑوں میں اُنہیں ساحر کی خوشبو محسوس ہوتی تھی۔ وُہ اپنی آپ بیتی رسیدی ٹکٹ میں لکھتی ہیں کہ شاید سگریٹ پینے کی اُن کو اِسی وجہ سے عادت پڑ گئی۔ بہر حال یہ گیت ساحر کے دل میں اُٹھتے جذبات کی عکاسی کر تا ہے جب وُہ امرتا کے پاس بیٹھے ہوتے تھے۔ چوُنکہ ساحر کی والدہ نے ساحر کو پالنے کے لیے بڑی قربانیاں دی تھیں اِس لیے ساحر کے دل میں ماں کا درجہ بہت بلند تھا۔ غالباً ساحر کی والدہ اپنے بیٹے کی شادی ایک سکھ لڑکی سے جس کے پہلی شادی سے دو بچے بھی تھے کرنے پر راضی نہ ہوئیں اور ساحر بھی نتیجتہً عمر بھر کنوارے ہی رہے۔ This song was written by Sahir Ludhianvi to re-create that era in his life when he was a young, emerging Muslim Urdu poet in British India's big city Lahore in the Punjab province towards the end of the British rule in India. In those days, Sahir met an emerging young Sikh poetess who wrote beautiful Punjabi poems: her name was Amrita Preetam. She was the only daughter of a famous Sikh religious scholar. She had been married against her wishes, on the insistence of her father who was a strict disciplinarian, to a man she did not like, let alone love. She had had two children from this dysfunctional marriage and had separated from her husband and was living with her children in Lahore. Sahir met Amrita at a Punjabi Literary meeting in the small but very influential town (in Punjabi Literary circles) of Preet Lari. After the literary meeting was over, Sahir got a chance to walk with Amrita in the moonlit night. Later, the two started meeting at Amrita's house in Lahore. Sahir would loiter around a Paan shop near Amrita's house from where he could watch the balcony and windows of Amrita's residence. When they met, they would not speak that much but just sit together in the living room. Sahir would keep smoking cigarettes. When Sahir left, Amrita would gather up the unfinished cigarette ends and keep them. She would try to smoke them when she was alone. In her autobiography Raseedi Ticket, Amrita writes that smoking those unfinished cigarettes would make her feel Sahir's presence. She felt that this is how she got the habit of smoking cigarettes. Sahir's mother had sacrificed a lot in raising him and so he had a high regard for his mother. Apparently, Sahir's mother was not prepared to accept a Sikh woman with children from a previous marriage as her daughter in law. So, Sahir remained unmarried till the day he died, many decades later, in Bombay, India.
