| Video Discription | Carbon dioxide can be transported in three ways: dissolved in plasma, bind to haemoglobin to make carbaminohaemoglobin, or most commonly, be converted to hydrogen carbonate ions. This maintains the steep concentration gradient between the red blood cells and the plasma/tissue fluid/cells, which allows more carbon dioxide to diffuse into the red blood cells and be removed from the organs efficiently.
