| Video Discription | Hello! In this video I will show you how to make Carbonic Acid and Carbon Dioxide gas. I have here Calcium Carbonate CaCO3 rock, smashed to dust, and Acetic Acid CH3COOH 500 mL, 10% by volume. I will put rock to the round-bottom flask, and add Acetic Acid. Close everything tightly. As you can see there are produced bubbles of gas. It's Carbon Dioxide from reaction between Calcium Carbonate and Acetic Acid. CaCO3 + 2 CH3COOH -> Ca(CH3COO)2 + CO2 + H2O Plentiful of Carbonates and Bicarbonates react like this with stronger acid than Carbonic Acid. Carbon Dioxide gas will go by this pipe to another round-bottom flask, where I can store it. Carbon Dioxide is slowly dissolving in the water. If we would put here compound which is readily reacting with Carbon Dioxide and/or Carbonic Acid, we could use it for production of Carbonate or Bicarbonate compound. To fill the entire round-bottom flask we would have to wait couple minutes. Thank you for watching. |
