| Video Discription | In the first of a series of conversations about migration, Oluseyi Awolesi interviewed a series of prominent creatives and business people. These talks were about independence and the relationship between Britain and Nigeria today, called Then and Now. This conversation is with Grace Forsythe. Grace trained as a nurse in Ibadan, Nigeria, before moving to Abeokuta in the late 1950s. In 1958 Grace was recruited to fill a shortage of nurses in the UK, two years before independence in 1960. Listen to her thoughts and reflections on that time, independence and the cultures of Britain and Nigeria, then and now. -About Then and Now- In September 2020, Curator Oluseyi Awolesi designed and led a project for the Horniman called Then and Now, part of series of displays and events marking 60 years since Nigerian Independence - Nigeria60. The project responded to the Horniman’s archive of colour photographs taken in Nigeria in the 1960s, as well as the significant movement of people between Nigeria and Britain during the independence years, and the subsequent imprint of Nigeria and Nigerians in Britain today.
