| Video Discription | Kansas Representative John Barker of the 70th District visits with show host Doug Thompson and Senate Majority Leader Jim Denning of the 8th District. Although the 2019 Legislature has ended, they reflect on the accomplishments of a productive and bi-partisan session as they watch and wait for Governor Kelly's response to passed bills sent to her by the Legislature. Both discuss disappoinment in Governor Kelly's veto of SB22/HB2033 "The Big Tax Bill" which effectively increases taxes for Kansas tax payers as well as the Governor's 'tax and spend' trend that is on track to deplete the state's checkbook by 2022. Senator Denning stated they had a very productive and structured session. They chose not to address medicaid expansion due to the need to wait for the Supreme Court ruling on school finance (SB16). They also decided the gaming/sports betting issue was not quite ready yet but expect to address it early next session. A few of the 2019 accomplishments include SB53 Emergency Medical Technicion bill, HB2290 Criminal Justice Reform, SB9 KPRS Retirement Payment, SB352 Highway Funds, and HB2140 as it relates to Dickinson County Roads and Bridges. |
