Linda Darnell’s career started early, when her mother pushed her to become a child model and started her on the road to stardom. She acted in stage productions for several years before she got her first big break in the movie Hotel for Women in 1939. From there, she starred a host of popular 1940s films alongside Hollywood legends like Tyrone Power and Henry Fonda. Darnell’s breakout role came in 1947 in the film Forever Amber. She expected it to propel her to superstardom but while it was a box office success, it didn’t live up to the hype it had received ahead of its release. After this disappointment, Darnell started getting less glamorous roles, pushing her in new directions as a nightclub singer and supporting actress on TV. In the mid-1960s, Linda’s career was starting to turn around after a critically-acclaimed turn as the sultry mistress Sadie in the film Black Spurs. She had several new roles on the horizon when her life was tragically cut short when she was caught in a fire at a friend’s home.
