One of the early films of the ultimately tragic Linda Darnell (1923-1965), it was loosely based on her own "discovery", written by the talent scout who had discovered her, along with his wife. A young waitress named Carolyn Sayres gets promoted and helped to attain movie stardom, along with a football player Bud Borden (John Payne) with whom she falls in love. Like her character in the film, Darnell was originally rejected by the studio for being too young, but returned a short time later and resumed her acting career. This was supposedly the film Darnell was watching on the fateful night when a friend's home where she was staying went up in flames; Darnell died a few days later at a local hospital in Illinois after suffering severe burns and smoke inhalation. For many years this film was unavailable in home video or DVD format; Fox released it as part of their archive series in 2014. The background music is "Stardust" composed originally by Mitchell Parish. Enjoy. |
