The Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle upon Tyne, shortened these days to "The Lit and Phil" grew and only a few decades later did they move into the building the society still inhabits today. Within these walls, the rich, warm smell of old books fills each and every corner, along with quiet conversations held by patrons old and new. Up high in the galleries, ancient floorboards creak with the strain of a thousand scholars long gone. What books might lie in the shadowed recesses of this place? What did desperate scholars seek from the highest shelves? Below, in the depths of the libraries reference room there is said to be ghosts that haunt the dark corners, forever drifting between volumes they can never escape. Why have you come here?
