| Video Discription | Bewick joined the Newcastle Literary and Philosphical Society in 1799 and remained a member until his death. The subscription library remains open and active today. The library has an extensive collection of books by and about Bewick and has on display the marble bust of Thomas Bewick by Edward Hodges Baily RA, taken from a life mask in 1825 as well as a portrait of Bewick by Ramsay. There is a framed manuscript letter from Bewick to his wife, sent from Wycliffe near Barnard Castle in 1791.' |
