STORYLINE: Thousands of Argentine women marched in Buenos Aires on Saturday to protest violence against women. This year, the anger from demonstrators was especially aimed at the country's right-wing populist president-elect, Javier Milei. Milei won a runoff last Sunday and will take office on December 10. A large banner with the slogans reading "Stop macho violence" and "Against budget cuts and (president-elect) Milei (going) over our rights. They won't pass" led the march that started at the Plaza de Mayo. Argentine feminists, who have been one of the continent's strongest voices for women's rights, said on Saturday that they would not take "even one step back" in rights they have worked hard to achieve, such as abortion. Milei has spoken out in the past against the abortion law enacted in 2021. The new government "question several things", said Giselle Iris, a member of the National Campaign for Legal, Safe, and Free Abortion in Argentina who took part in Saturday's march.
