Crystal field splitting: When the ligands approach the central metal ion, the electrons in the d−orbital of central metal ion will be repelled by the ion pairs of the ligands. Because of these interactions the degeneracy of d−orbitals of the metal ion is lost and these split into two sets of orbital having different energies. This is known as crystal field splitting. On the basis of crystal field theory, write the electronic configuration of d4 in terms of t2g and eg in an octahedral field when When Δo is less than P, it is weak field and high spin situation'. As a result one electron entered in eg orbital and 3 electrons in t2g.
