| Video Discription | Hello I'm Joan and this book is called Tell Me What I Am by Una Mannion. It’s the story of two sisters who are very close. Their names are Nessa and Deena. Until Deena falls under the spell of a guy named Lucas who turned out to be not quite all that he seemed. But Lucas and Deena have a daughter together her name is Ruby. And when the relationship falls apart Ruby and her mother move back into the city and back in with Ruby’s aunt Aunt Nessa. One morning Deena gets up to go to work as usual and she doesn’t come back and she never comes back. So Lucas takes the opportunity to take full custody of Ruby. He immediately moves her away to a completely different state Vermont where he brings her up almost single-handedly with the help of his mother. And she learns about nature and the wildlife and the world around her but she knows never ever to ask anything about her mother or her mother’s family. Her father is still a very controlling man after all these years and quite erratic. Then one day Ruby receives a packet in the mail which asks some questions and causes her to start wondering exactly what happened to her mother all those years ago and this is the beginning of the unravelling. The relationships in this book are so nuanced it is a thing of beauty to read and I really loved it. |
