| Video Discription | Hello I'm Joan and this book is called Smoke by Michael Brissenden. It's set in the small fictional Californian town of Jasper. Detective Alex Markov has recently returned there, it's her hometown, from a stint with the Los Angeles Police Department which she's left under an accusation of corruption. There are some good old boys on the force up there who are determined to get her. But when she gets back to the police station in Jasper she finds that her colleagues there don't want her either. After a wildfire sweeps through the town a body is found in a shed and her colleagues are certain that it was just a really nasty accident during the fire. But actually the shed had been locked from the outside. As Alex starts to investigate she finds that there's a really dark underbelly to the small town. It's a town for sale to the highest bidder where the authorities are playing games within games and she's the prize pawn. It's really, really well put together and I highly recommend it. |
