| Video Discription | Hello I'm Joan and this book is called The Partisan by Patrick Worrall. It's a wonderful thriller set primarily during the Cold War era of the 1960s. But it does have links back to World War 2. And we meet Greta who was a partisan in Lithuania during the war. And sh'e spent the years since hunting down the Nazis who killed her friends. She's older now but she has become a very successful and highly accomplished assassin and she still has one target in her sights. Meanwhile we also meet two young chess prodigies who fall in love and become unwitting pawns in a game of international espionage and intrigue. There's a Europe under threat, there's Russian politics, there's espionage at the highest level. And it all comes together beautifully with Greta as the link between. I think it sits somewhere between The Queen's Gambit and I am Pilgrim. And as I said at the start it is a really terrific book. |
