| Video Discription | How to best strengthen your middle trapezius muscle | The MSK Physio The middle trapezius muscle is an important shoulder blade stabiliser when lifting the arm sideways. It's also a key player in the reaching into the back seat of a car move 😅. While there doesn't seem to be clear research, yet, on what are the best exercises for this muscle, there is some research which can help us (Patselas et al., 2021)! Ekstrom et al. (2005) found that when you manual muscle test in a prone T position WITH external rotation, you get the most activation of the middle trapezius. This is likely very straightforward as we can just load this position with weight. The second most activated position was with Y raises. If you aren't sure what that exercise is have a browse through our YouTube channel as it is the best position for loading the lower trapezius. Ok, so back to it. This is one of those exercise that is humbling. So best experienced than talked about. Start with no weight and see if you can do 2x15.
