Derive the expression of zero order reaction?
The rate constant of the reaction is denoted by k. In a zero-order reaction, the rate constant is expressed as concentration/time or M/s, where 'M' is the molarity and 's' is one second. ∴ k = mol L–1 s–1 is the unit of rate constant.
Examples of a Zero-Order Reaction
Example 1: Haber Process
The Haber process is defined as the process that produces ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen gas. The exact opposite of this process (form nitrogen and hydrogen by the decomposition of ammonia) is known as the reverse Haber process which is an example of a zero-order reaction
Example 2: Photochemical Reaction
The Photochemical reaction is defined as the reaction of hydrogen with chlorine.
Decomposition of nitrous oxide on a hot platinum surface.
N2O → N2 + 1/2 O2
What is half life period? Derive and expression for
half-life period in case of a zero order reaction.
Time required to decrease the concentration of reactant to its half is called Half life of reaction.
Derive and expression for half-life period in case of a first order reaction.
Time required to decrease the concentration of reactant to its half is called Half life of reaction.
Half-life of a 1st order reaction is independent of the initial amount.
Give an example of the reaction of the 4th order
The dissociation of potassium chlorate to form potassium
perchlorate is an example of the reaction of 4th order.
4KClO3 → 3KClO4 + KCl
What is the use of the integrated rate equation?
Ans :
Integrated rate equation are used to determine
(i) The value of the rate constant
(ii) order of a reaction |
